Beets (or beetroot) has risen to superfood status in the last decade or so, and has gained popularity among health-conscious individuals. Despite it’s bright and vibrant colour, many have avoided beets due to their “earthy” or bitter taste. However, beets are rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and help in the absorption of iron.

Beets are best consumed raw or uncooked to retain their nutrients. One way to absorb all it’s goodness is through drinking beetroot juice as it provides all of their vitamins and nutrients in a concentrated form. In this article, we will share with you the health benefits of consuming beetroot juice and recipes to neutralize its taste.

What are the health benefits of drinking Beetroot juice?

1. Lowers Blood Pressure

Blood Pressure

As beets contain a high level of nitrates, this converts into nitrate oxide which relaxes and widens blood vessels. This will allow for more oxygen to flow through your brain, heart and muscles, and in return, lower blood pressure. At the same time, with all the oxygen flowing, you will also feel more energetic and active throughout the day!

2. Improves Digestion

Dietary fiber is an essential component of a healthy diet. With 3.8 grams of fiber per cup of raw beets, it will help regulate your digestive processes and relieve constipation. This will improve your digestive health and prevent conditions such as constipation and inflammatory bowel diseases. A glass of beetroot juice is also a great home remedy for an upset stomach.

3. Fights Inflammation

Healthy Lifestyle

Beets contain pigments called betalain, which gives them a reddish-purple hue and provide them with antioxidants. It is also rich in nitrates, which removes harmful compounds from your bloodstream. This combination makes beets a powerful vegetable that fights inflammation.
